2. Characteristics of the bed:

(1) Good wear resistance and shock absorption. Since the graphite in cast iron is beneficial to lubrication and oil storage, it has good wear resistance. Likewise, the shock absorption properties due to the presence of graphite are better than those of steel.

(2) Good process performance. Because gray cast iron has high carbon content and is close to the eutectic composition, it has a relatively low melting point, good fluidity, and small shrinkage, so it is suitable for casting complex structures or thin-walled castings. In addition, because graphite makes it easy to form chip breakers during cutting, gray cast iron has better machinability than steel.
